The short answer: anxiety counselling gives you a private space to understand what’s driving your anxiety and to learn practical ways to manage it. Sessions are in person in Yarrabilba, in Logan City, or online anywhere in Australia, and you don’t need a referral.
What Anxiety Can Look Like
Anxiety isn’t always obvious from the outside. It can show up as:
- constant worry or overthinking that’s hard to switch off
- panic attacks, a racing heart or tightness in the chest
- trouble sleeping, or waking with your mind already busy
- avoiding places, people or situations
- feeling on edge, irritable or tired all the time
- dreading work, school, social situations or appointments
- anxiety linked to past experiences, or anxiety with no obvious cause
You don’t need a diagnosis to book. If anxiety is getting in the way of your life, that’s enough reason to talk about it.
You Don’t Need to Be in Crisis
Many people wait until things feel unmanageable before reaching out. Counselling can be useful well before that point, whether anxiety has crept up slowly over years or arrived after a stressful change such as a new job, a health scare, a separation or becoming a parent.
How Adam Works With Anxiety
Sessions are tailored to you and can draw on:
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to notice anxious thinking patterns and test them out
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to make room for difficult feelings and focus on what matters to you. Read more about ACT for anxiety and stress.
- Mindfulness and relaxation techniques to settle the body’s stress response
- Practical strategies for sleep, worry and avoidance that you can use between sessions
If your anxiety is tied to past experiences, counselling can be combined with trauma counselling or EMDR-informed techniques. Some people also choose hypnotherapy for anxiety, on its own or alongside counselling.
What to Expect in Your First Session
Your first session is about getting to know you: what’s brought you in, how anxiety shows up in your life, and what you’d like to be different. You decide how much you share. Together you’ll work out an approach that suits you, and you’re free to ask questions at any point.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
It varies from person to person, depending on what you’re working on and how long anxiety has been part of your life. Adam won’t promise a timeline before meeting you. You’ll review progress together as you go, and you’re always free to pause or stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral for anxiety counselling?
No. You can book directly.
Is anxiety counselling the same as seeing a psychologist?
No. Adam is a PACFA-registered counsellor, not a psychologist. If you need a formal diagnosis or a Medicare-rebated mental health care plan, your GP can refer you to a psychologist.
Can I have anxiety counselling online?
Yes. Sessions are available online anywhere in Australia, as well as in person in Yarrabilba.
What’s the difference between anxiety counselling and hypnotherapy for anxiety?
Counselling is talk-based and focuses on understanding your anxiety and building practical skills. Hypnotherapy uses a relaxed, focused state to work with anxious responses. You can use either, or both, and you don’t need to decide before your first session.
What if I feel anxious about the appointment itself?
That’s very common. You can start with a free 10-minute call, have sessions online from home, and set the pace yourself. Let Adam know at the start and he’ll take it from there.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies from person to person, depending on what you’re working on. Adam won’t promise a timeline before meeting you, and you’ll review progress together as you go.
How much does anxiety counselling cost?
See our pricing page for current fees. There’s no Medicare or health fund rebate at this stage.
