About Adam

Hi, I'm Adam

If you're here, you might be carrying something you've lived with for a long time. Maybe you've tried talking about it before, or maybe you've never told anyone. Either way, you don't need the right words or a starting point. That's what we work out together.

Why I do this work

I came to this work through lived experience as much as study. I've supported someone close to me through complex mental health, chronic illness and disability. I've been through family court myself, and I know the frustration of trying to find the right support when it isn't easy to find. Those years taught me what it's like to carry something heavy, and how much the right support matters.

What that means for you

Experience with complex mental health

I've worked in mental health since 2014: community mental health rehabilitation with Anglicare SA, four years in residential youth care with Indigenous young people, and NDIS psychosocial recovery and support coordination. Whatever you're carrying, you'll be met with care, not judgement.

A focus on trauma, anxiety and addiction

Most of my work is with trauma, anxiety and addiction, including habits like smoking. I also work with couples and families, drawing on Gottman Method training and my time at Relationships Australia supporting people through separation and family court.

You get more than one way forward

Some people need space to talk things through; others want a more focused approach. I offer counselling and clinical hypnotherapy, drawing on Solution-focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Positive Psychology. The aim isn't to fit you into one type of therapy. It's to find what works for you.

Why hypnotherapy

The first time I saw hypnotherapy in action, I was hooked. I've always been fascinated by how our minds form patterns and emotional responses without us realising. I went on to complete a Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, and I'm also certified in conversational hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy isn't mind control. You stay aware and in control the whole time. What I value about it is that it offers another way in when talking alone hasn't reached the problem.

What I believe about change

I've worked with people who carried painful experiences for decades without ever stopping to ask how those experiences actually affected them. Sometimes we live with something so long it becomes part of who we think we are.

I don't believe your past has to define your future. The brain keeps the ability to learn and form new patterns throughout life. That's neuroplasticity, and it's part of why meaningful change remains possible even after many years. Healing is possible. It takes work from both of us and looks different for everyone, but you don't have to just keep living with it.

A bit about me

I was born in South Australia, spent part of my childhood in Queensland, and made Queensland home again in 2020. I live in Yarrabilba with my wife and kids, one of whom has flown the nest. Outside work you'll find me at the gym, practising karate or learning something new. I also have ADHD, so I understand first-hand what it's like when your brain works a little differently.
